For $85 a night, it was a great deal. The room was clean, the check-in staff were nice, and parking was free with security at night. The bed was a little rough, but you get what you pay for. It was close enough to walk to good bars and dinner spots, and I’d stay for a night again.

Free parking, which seemed to be guarded, and a spacious room were the main draws. Union Square is about a 10-minute walk away, so it works well for an overnight stay. Update: be careful, I noticed an unexplained $51.55 charge on my card.

The price worked for my budget, and the free parking felt safe. The room was good and the water pressure was good too. The hotel is clean, though the outside looks a bit old. Its central location makes it easy to get to places like Chinatown, JapanTown, and Alcatraz. We took a couple of buses around, at $3 per person, and could catch them right in front of the hotel. To the east there are some homeless people, but that wasn’t a problem for me. To the west, JapanTown and the trail there are really nice, and you can also go to the Japanese garden if you’re coming with a woman. Chinatown is to the northeast, and the airport is to the south. Good luck with your visit.

Pete was the reason we were able to stay peacefully. He resolved the issue and was polite, understanding, and cordial. Thanks, Pete, for the help. For the price, the hotel is decent and the location is pretty good, but the front desk guy was so rude, arrogant, and cocky that we considered canceling even though the booking was non-refundable. I’d never return or recommend the place if I had to deal with that man again.

We booked Cathedral Hill Hotel through Capital One for $165 a night. The non-refundable same-day booking meant we felt we had no choice but to stay, even after considering canceling. The area felt unsafe to us, with many homeless people on the street, and the parking had an open gate wall with people standing nearby. Reception staff seemed disorganized and unhelpful. Definitely not a suitable option for families, so proceed with caution. All houses in this area have extra security installed on their doors.
