We tend to book Holiday Inn Express as we travel because our driving times can change, and we stay wherever we happen to be near. The highway access is usually convenient, especially since we often have our boat trailer. Rooms are reliably clean, and this one had just been remodeled with a very nice shower. The hot breakfast saves us about an hour and at least $20 compared with eating at a restaurant. I check availability online, then call the location to book, and usually get an extra discount.
Our room was spacious, with large beds and a little kitchenette area with a table and two chairs. It was otherwise a good stay in a quiet area with food and amenities nearby. There was drilling above us around 10am because of the remodeling, but we were already up, and signs clearly listed the work hours. Room 100 did have a couple of problems: the desk chair wouldn’t rise when I used the lever, and the HVAC was unpredictable. Heat worked, but the A/C didn’t, and sometimes switching it off still left warm air blowing. Since it was 32 degrees outside and we had our own fan, we unplugged it at night. Breakfast was fine, and the coffee machines were great.
I spend about a month of nights in nwa each year, and I won’t be back to this hotel. The room looked fine at first, but the bedroom TV wouldn’t turn on. I reported it late in the evening and figured it could wait. After a nine-hour workday the next day, it still hadn’t been fixed, and the desk clerk said there were no notes about it. I asked for a manager the following morning, but neither of the two men who came out nor the clerk knew what was going on. After another 11-hour workday, the TV was on, but my electronics in the living area had been unplugged, the bed was askew, and the nightstand had been moved. I put everything back myself. The way this was handled felt careless. Guests shouldn’t have to keep asking to get something fixed and then straighten up after a worker.
The stay turned into a string of problems, and I regret spending the money here. We checked in Sunday, and the room seemed a little worn but okay. Around 11pm Tuesday, the AC started filling it with a strong smoke smell. A helpful woman at the desk moved us to a second-floor room that night. There was blood on a bathroom towel and on the sheet there, but it was past midnight and we had our 3-year-old with us, so we stripped the bed and didn’t complain. The next day, construction began right above us, which nobody had mentioned when moving us. The power tools and hammering kept our toddler from napping, then woke them at 8 am the following morning. When I called to ask if they could avoid using tools directly above our bed at that hour, the man at the desk laughed and said he couldn’t do anything. Later, disgusting water started coming up through the sink drain too. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’d rather have stayed at motel 6.
The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. They were remodeling while we were there, but breakfast was good and it was a nice place to stay. The rusted drain in the photo didn’t affect the shower, though the hotel should know it’s rusted.
