Motel 6 Mojave, CA

There were cockroaches in the room. I killed a couple, so I’m not bringing it up just because I’m angry about the name issue. My wife booked my two-week work stay and added me as the person checking in, but they kept claiming I wasn’t on the room, even after I’d been there a whole week. I was fed up with the ridiculous hassle, so I left at 8 p.m. and went to the Best Western. I’ll never stay at a Motel 6 again.

I still have another week here, and I’m grateful to have somewhere to stay while I’m going through a difficult time. The staff have been friendly. But for around $900 for two weeks, I expect clean sheets and a sanitary room. The blankets had holes and stains when I checked in, and I took photos. The pillowcases looked new but were stained too. There was a bad odor from the bathroom drain, especially the shower, and the room didn’t feel clean. I’m not trying to complain, but basic cleanliness should be standard. Better cleaning, maintenance, and possible renovations could make this location much more comfortable.

The place was cleaner and safer than the last hotel we stayed at, but the amenities are a joke and it still isn’t worth the price. I wouldn’t stop here if you need sleep: one night I heard four trains between 1:15 and 2:35 a.m. The WiFi only works if you stand outside, and staff haven’t fixed the service despite saying for over five days that a tech is coming. I feel like I’m being gaslit. An employee looked into my room and then knocked on the window to talk to me. That felt rude and violating, especially as a single woman with a history of sexual and domestic abuse. When I brought it up, he dismissed me without apologizing and kept talking about his own point. I didn’t know he was an employee when he came to my window and looked in.

The staff were friendly, but that’s about the only good thing I can say. My coffee tasted like brown water, and there were cigarette burns on the bed and blue paint splattered on the walls. I asked for a room with a tub and didn’t get one. Honestly, I couldn’t wait to leave.
