Shaw House Inn

That clawfoot tub in the Shaw Suite was my favorite part. I’m from Eureka, and when my boyfriend came up from Sacramento, we stayed here after the fair on Saturday. We walked to dinner at Tuya’s, which I’d recommend, and bumped into the lovely owners on our way back. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, especially the orange French toast. A sweet BnB, even for locals. 10/10, I’d book here again.

The breakfast was fresh, wholesome, and spectacular, and I really didn’t want to leave. I’ll be back. The ladies who run the Shaw House made me feel welcome from arrival to departure. My room, one of the added-on rooms, I think, had its own entrance and was lovely. The original bedrooms each have their own layout and décor, and the house itself has a distinctive look. The Shaw House is the state’s oldest B&B, at the start of Ferndale’s main drag. The town has beautiful Victorians, farms by the coast, and plenty of history. Thank you, ladies. The cook is excellent. She said she has a farm, and she makes everything taste like a pro. There aren’t tons of breakfast choices, but what they serve is really good: quiche today and berry bread pudding yesterday. We’ve stayed twice and like the sweet house, especially the yard, with little places to sit tucked all over, plus two cozy sitting rooms. One’s a library, I think, and they hardly get used. Our Orchard room mattress was like a marshmallow, the softest, puffiest I’ve ever slept on. If you like that, you’ll love it. I don’t, so next time I’ll ask which bed is firmest.

The new owner and returning staff were friendly and helpful. It’s an old, quaint building that’s been kept up well, and the shops in Ferndale are just a short walk away.
