We’ve come back to Hotel Nickel Plate several times because the rooms are nice and the atmosphere feels welcoming. Most visits have been enjoyable, but this last one left us feeling misled. We ordered room service and left our usual tip. Only afterward did we learn the bill already included an automatic gratuity, which nobody had mentioned. With our tip added too, the gratuity portion came to nearly three times what we expected. We’ve tipped on earlier visits as well and were never told about the automatic charge. It’s a lovely hotel, but guests need clear information about charges like this. The lack of transparency took away from what could have been another good stay and affected our trust.

During the evenings, Don, Jamal, and Zach helped give me a chance to feel normal after long days at the hospital while my wife was in the ICU. That meant a lot. I’d previously written a review saying the staff and spirit of the hotel didn’t live up to the expectations I had for a highly rated Tapestry property. I was wrong, and the whole team went out of their way to meet my needs. The on-site restaurant became part of my routine. The steak was disappointing and much too salty, so I didn’t order it again. The meatloaf was excellent, though, and showed the kitchen can do a great meal. The fries come seasoned, so ask for them plain if that’s what you prefer. I stayed nearly a week, and the hotel became a home away from home. My wife was glad I could be near the hospital, and I appreciated having somewhere comfortable to recharge. The design is beautiful, with rail-themed colors and decor that don’t feel overdone. A neat detail is that the room light projects the room number onto the ceiling. My room was roomy without wasted space, with plenty of outlets and a wireless charger. The furniture felt sturdy, and housekeeping did a great job throughout. Thank you to everyone who helped me through a difficult time.

We had a great night away as an early Xmas gift and staycation. The room looked out over downtown fishers, and parking was easy. We’ve stayed at hotels around the US, and my wife and I both thought Nickel Plate Hotel was top notch, with great service, food, and decor. We found out the restaurant is open to non-guests too, so we may come back with friends to try the igloos and food. Thanks!
