Hilton Garden Inn Poughkeepsie/Fishkill

We liked the hotel itself: the staff were friendly, our ground-floor room was spacious and near an exit for taking our small dog out, just as we’d requested, and the location was convenient on both legs of our January trip to Florida. The restaurant is why we won’t return. On our first visit, we were the first diners there but stood at the podium for five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. After we sat down, another ten minutes passed before we could order drinks, even though a waitress behind the bar could see us. The food was okay, so we figured someone was having a bad day. On the way back in February, we waited at our table for 15-20 minutes without even getting water, let alone placing an order, then left. I don’t think anyone noticed us go. The hotel needs to know this restaurant is costing it business. The $75-per-night dog fee was another problem. Most places charge $25 or let dogs stay free, so we won’t stay here again.

I chose a room facing I 84, and the road noise was extremely loud day and night. Some soundproofing in the windows would help. The rooms also feel very old and need updating. There wasn’t a USB charger anywhere, the furniture and upholstery looked dated, and a few things were a bit dirty. The staff were nice, though I barely interacted with them. After I came back from the gym, a housekeeping laundry bin had been left outside my door. Then someone knocked at 10 AM, even though I believe checkout was at 11 and I hadn’t checked out yet. It was an okay stay, but there are newer, better maintained places in the area.

The virtual key on my phone worked smoothly, and the service team was great. There’s a nice restaurant and good places to eat nearby. The hotel is also close to the freeway, so getting on the road was easy. It was a convenient place to stay for a work trip. Highly recommend.

The view was a nice extra, and there were lots of stores close by. I stayed one night for work and would come back. I checked in on the app, then stopped by the desk for an access card. My room was ready as promised, and the staff member was very courteous. Parking was plentiful and free. The room and bathroom were clean, with the bathroom well stocked, and the bed was comfortable. The fitness room and pool were open and very clean. I had a chicken sandwich at the bar, and it was really good.
