MainStay Suites Fitchburg - Madison

From the location and price to the clean, roomy rooms, breakfast, and staff, this was one of the best hotel stays I’ve had in a couple of years. Most places don’t meet my standards, but this Mainstay in Fitchburg really did. I can’t think of a bad thing to say; the experience was top notch.

The area was nice, and I liked the room layout. The lobby and parking lot were clean, too. But the room had wall stains and pee stains on the bedding, and the front desk staff weren’t especially friendly. The worst part was the person above me stomping and walking around nonstop from 4 a.m. I called the desk and was told someone would walk the floors, though I wasn’t sure what that meant. The noise kept going and badly disrupted my sleep. If I stayed again, I’d try to get the highest room possible.

The location was good, but the hotel itself was average. The shower head wasn’t adequate, and the bathroom floor grout was black, nowhere near its original color. I’d paid extra for breakfast, yet only ate there on two of my four mornings because I found roaches in my room after the second night. I assumed they might be around the food too. I kept the lights on while sleeping to try to keep them away, and little bugs also appeared now and then in the bathroom. I told the man at the desk about the roaches. He said he’d let maintenance know. When I said I’d never had this happen at a hotel before, he replied that they can come up through the sink or plumbing. Nobody offered compensation. I won’t stay here again.

The room was just so-so, and the bed wasn’t comfortable. Light from the very bright parking lot kept coming in all night because the blackout shades didn’t close fully. Then at 8 a.m., there was a lawn mower and trimmer right outside our bedroom window. Wouldn’t recommend.
