Hotel Monte Vista

Downtown is a fun place to explore, and Flagstaff is worth a trip. We had a great stay, though parking was very limited. Once you find a spot, it’s best to leave your car there for the whole visit or you may have to use a garage down the street. Our room was said to be very haunted, but we didn’t see or feel anything. The TV didn’t work and the toilet kept running, but they sent someone up and both problems were fixed right away. The bedding and pillows could use replacing.

We only spent one night, but both my partner and I had nightmares about the room and couldn’t sleep after 2:30pm. It was pretty creepy, especially with the hotel’s haunted reputation. The building is beautiful inside, unique, and full of history. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re into the paranormal.

The location is great, and the allegedly haunted rooms are a fun novelty. But I’ve stayed several times while my mother was visiting from Hawaii, and every stay has disappointed me. The front desk staff are extremely rude and aren’t helpful. I also don’t feel my belongings are safe, since the maids will definitely steal them. They seem to bank on the location and let everything else slide.

We chose it for the great location, and I’m glad we booked just one night. We might have stayed longer if we’d liked the room more. The cocktail lounge was awesome. We paid extra for a “Signature Queen” for its jacuzzi tub. It was wider and deeper than most tubs, but shorter. The very old bedspread was dated, though we initially tried to overlook it. The shower was the bigger problem: it was only a rain style, sprayed in the wrong directions, and dripped cold water into the tub. There wasn’t a regular shower head, and the tub drained poorly. Older rooms are fine with us, but a new bedspread and shower head are inexpensive ways to make one comfortable.
