Carefree Inn Flatonia

The room looked and smelled fairly clean, but the humidity was awful. The air conditioner cooled it down without making the air feel any less damp. I was meant to stay two nights, but after one uncomfortable night I couldn't do another and told them why I was checking out. The woman asked my room number, took my key, said thanks, and closed the little wooden panel over the after-hours plexiglass.

The staff were great and kept helping with my requests, including delivered packages and extra towels. The water got hot, and the king bed was good. But none of the four networks gave me internet in my room. The bathroom smell wouldn't go away even after using plenty of Lysol, and there was a stain in the toilet.

John, the manager, was a big help. The rooms were clean and nice, and there are stores and places to eat nearby.

The hospitality alone would bring me back. The front desk staff were very nice and flexible with timing: check-in was available any time after 1 p.m., and they let us leave at noon, an hour later, without a charge. It was quiet, we felt safe, and the rooms were acceptable. The price won't break the bank either.
