Super 8 Florence

We had booked and paid ahead for a king bed because our 19-month-old sleeps between us, but the desk clerk put us in a double queen room. When I asked if she could switch us, she raised her voice and spoke condescendingly to the customer behind us, saying she’d already told me she couldn’t change it. I asked for a manager and she said, rudely, that it was 11:00 and there wasn’t one. I’ve stayed in hotels every week for work, usually Wyndham, and room changes have never been an issue before. I stepped back because my son was in my arms, said not to worry, and asked her name. She said, “April, I’m actually the manager’s daughter.” I told her plainly that being family seemed to be the only reason she was employed. She was unprofessional and unkempt, and treated us like crap. The hotels on both sides were run down and closed, and reviews led us to choose this location over the other Florence Super 8. I won’t come back. She could be one reason this place goes downhill too.

We stopped here for a night on our drive from Florida back to Pennsylvania. For $71, I was very happy with the comfortable, clean room, the good cable, free WiFi, and friendly staff. There are nicer hotels, sure, but for this price it’s hard to beat. I’d happily stay again.

Ms. Teresa at the front desk was very kind and helpful, and she actually listened when I raised my concerns. The owner just made excuses for the room being dirty. There was hair and a live roach on the bathroom sink, a loose toilet seat that pinched my skin, and a shower head with such a slow trickle it was hard to wash my thick hair. The sofa was stained, the desk chair had a hole, and yet they take a $100 deposit. I had no washcloths or hand towels, just an ice bucket lid with no bucket. Breakfast was awful, only cereal and one kind of muffin, and generic powdered creamer instead of liquid or flavored cups. I stayed just one night, thankfully. For the price, I expected an older hotel, but it still could have been clean and maintained. I go to Florence often, but won’t stay there again.

For a $73 rate, we were surprised by how nice the room was. It was spacious and clean, and the woman at the front desk was so friendly. We’ll stay here again next time we drive between Pennsylvania and Florida.
