Days Inn by Wyndham Fort Dodge

We stayed for a week and left the rooms clean, apart from a small coffee spot on my sheet. They kept my deposit over that and also claimed my son had been vaping in his room, though he doesn’t even smoke. After some words were exchanged, they returned his deposit. Mine was supposed to go back to my card, and I doubt I’ll get it. They inspect rooms before checkout and, in my experience, may come up with reasons to keep the deposit. There was mold in the hallways as well. We’ll never stay here again.

I only needed a few hours of rest, but the room was messy and smelled of smoke. The carpet was red and filthy, and the beds, shower, and bathroom were nasty. I had my service dog with me, and the man at the front desk was impolite. They charged my deposit for a little mud on the sheets, which made me wonder whether they wash the bedding at all. The front desk staff didn’t speak English well, and the place felt sketchy, especially with people living in rooms. For similar money after the deposit, I’d choose the Holiday Inn for better quality. This place seems focused on taking your money and can’t fix how nasty it is.

The shower head was the one good thing. The rest of the place smelled stale and strongly of food. There were no coffee makers in the rooms or even water glasses. I saw cobwebs, chipped paint and plaster, and a hole in the wall where a smoke detector seemed to have been. The coffee downstairs was regular only. When I asked for decaf, someone made another pot and opened the coffee grounds package with their teeth. Yes, their teeth.

After our car went into a ditch during a blizzard, we needed a place for two nights. The staff and manager were so helpful, which made it easier to unwind after such a harrowing day. The rooms were nice, though a little updating wouldn’t hurt, and the beds were really comfortable. I’d stay here again if I’m in Fort Dodge.
