Ocean Reef Hotel

I didn’t feel safe here and wouldn’t stay again. The room felt damp and the bathroom was extremely small. Neighbors on both sides were loud late into the night, and we were told complaints could only go to the general manager, who wouldn’t be back before we checked out. Police were outside our room the first night, then back in the morning for someone who was out of control. They also asked us for a $50 deposit without explaining what it was for.

No frills, but the basics all worked: clean rooms and unscented sheets, mattresses without lumps, hot water, a working door lock and AC, plus good Wi-Fi. The staff were friendly and helpful. You get what you pay for, so book a five-star hotel if that’s what you want.

We left and checked out because the conditions didn’t feel safe or healthy. There was a strong humid, moldy smell as soon as we entered the first room, with damp air, a very dirty coffee pot, hairs in the bathroom, and dirt throughout. The front desk offered another room, which was a little better, but it still smelled damp and had visible bathroom mold. The AC looked dirty and poorly maintained, and seemed to add moisture instead of improving the air. We’re disputing the charges and requesting a refund for the nights we didn’t stay. So far, the hotel hasn’t responded or apologized.

We came here at short notice after leaving a previous hotel that was filthy and nothing like its online description. Ocean reef got our group into four rooms, and because of our bad experience, let us inspect them before deciding. The rooms could use upgrades, but they were clean, and the location is great. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our only issue was the missing shower curtain. The overnight gentleman didn’t know where to find one. We were just in town for one night after getting off a cruise, and would stay again.
