Ramada By Wyndham Fort Lauderdale Oakland Park

For a night or two, this place could work, but I wouldn’t stay longer. The staff were very friendly and kindly let us check in early. The rooms were good, though they had a bit of a smell. The scariest part was coming back from a walk to find the cleaning lady had left our door open. Someone could have noticed and stolen our things, although fortunately nothing happened. Breakfast was another issue. The space is so tight that people had to stand around waiting for seats, so we couldn’t sit down and enjoy it. That area needs to be bigger.

The room was clean, the price decent, and the staff friendly. But the toilet, sink, and shower water was yellow. The bathroom had no airflow and got hot and stuffy. There’s also a resort fee despite being quite far from the water, plus a $100 credit card hold for incidentals.

The front desk experience was poor from the start. I had to ask for basic information myself, and although I was told there was an airport shuttle, nobody explained that I needed to sign up. When I asked about departure time on the day I needed to leave, the attendant only asked whether I had signed up. She had been much more informative with the guests before me, and wasn’t friendly to me. I also had to change rooms on my first night because the TV didn’t work. I stayed two nights. The bed seemed fine, but after getting home I had bites all over and a doctor said they were bedbug bites. It was my first trip to FL, and now I’ve had to bag my belongings and pay a company to deal with bedbugs. The room itself wasn’t great either. I’d suggest spending a little more on a dependable hotel, since you could end up paying extra later. I gave this place one star, though it deserves zero. I don’t recommend it.

The rooms and beds have been updated since the place became a Ramada, and I found them very comfortable. This was my first stay under that name; I’d visited before when it was a Best Western. The carpet was my one issue, since it seems to hold onto the damp in humid South Florida. Aside from that, I had a great overnight stay and would come back on my next visit.
