Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal/Il Lugano

We were told our early check-in request had been approved, but our room wasn’t ready when we arrived. We waited at the pool, which was visibly dirty and poorly maintained. Even at the guaranteed 4:00 PM check-in time, there was still no room. First we heard housekeeping was behind; after 20 minutes in wet bathing suits, we were told “VIP guests” with late check-out were being given priority. That was shocking and unprofessional. Another 30 minutes passed before we were told the room was still being cleaned and we’d be moved to one with a water view. We didn’t get in until 5:40 PM, nearly two hours after regular check-in. Maintenance was loudly using an industrial shop vacuum in the room next door, and the hallway smelled noticeably of mold. The delays made us miss dinner reservations and evening plans. We asked repeatedly to speak with the manager, but were told for hours that she was “in a meeting.” Two days later there was still no follow-up from management. The Director of Housekeeping did call to apologize, but the lack of any management response is unacceptable. This was a failure of operations, cleanliness, communication, and leadership. Guests shouldn’t be pushed aside after confirmed check-in approval. We’re requesting a full refund and expect accountability. Completely unacceptable and very disappointing at Residence Inn.

The suite had a properly stocked kitchen and was spacious, with a washer and dryer that came in handy. The beach is about a five-minute walk away, and Walgreens and a new Publix are also within five minutes on foot. Several restaurants are nearby, including my favorites, the Columbian Cafe and the Greek. The hotel breakfast isn’t anything special, but it’s free, so you don’t look a free horse in the mouth.

Our room was clean, as were the common areas, and it had a huge balcony overlooking the intercoastal waters. The view could feel calm or lively depending on the moment. My only room complaint was the shower, which took too long to warm up. There are restaurants within walking distance, along with the Water Taxi, beach, Walgreens, and Publix. There’s plenty of city parking, as well as valet service and a secure parking deck. The upper floors have residential units. I definitely recommend it.

The intercoastal view is stunning. I’m grateful to Chris & Jeff for helping me check in. With everything happening in Fort Lauderdale, Alfredo was incredibly helpful on my second night and made sure I was safe in a beautiful room.
