Sea Club Resort

We only booked because our flight home was cancelled and we needed somewhere to sleep. The lobby smelled awful, and the place felt sketchy, but we tried to give it a chance. Within about 30 minutes in our so-called upgraded balcony room, my husband had a severe asthma attack, which we believed was caused by the mold and scent. We left right away. I can't stress enough how dangerous this place could be. It should be demolished. The only reason this gets one star is that zero isn't an option. Don't book here, and believe the negative reviews.

The beach location in Fort Lauderdale is beautiful, and the room was reasonably clean and quiet. The price is low for the area, but there aren't budget places to eat within an easy walk, so a car would help if you're feeding a family on a budget. The hotel itself feels very old and tired, probably last renovated back in the 1950s. Calling it a resort is a stretch. The on-site food and bar weren't open, and the Wi-Fi barely worked. Two stars for a hotel in a four-star location.

The location on Fort Lauderdale beach is hard to beat, and the price made sense for the condition. We stayed during a cold snap, and the friendly staff brought us extra blankets. Parking was included, the room was dated but clean, and the shower had hot water and good pressure. It's a charming Art Deco and midcentury modern property. Too bad the restaurant and lounge have reportedly been closed for about two years, according to locals. I can imagine this place was quite a spot in its heyday. We'd come back for the pool and beach in warmer weather. Some reviewers seem to expect more than the budget allows.

We couldn't stay in the room: roaches came out around the door as soon as we opened it, and it was dirty, musty, and damp, with black mold on the mattress, stained sheets, peeling paint, and an unkept bathroom. The staff were rude, customer service was nowhere to be found, and they charged my card for two rooms but refused to refund anything, even though we left. That meant finding somewhere for six people to sleep at 11 at night and disrupted our vacation. The place was nothing like its advertising, extremely outdated, unkept, and infested with bugs. The owners seemed happy to take our money but showed no remorse or effort to make things right. I hope the health department shuts it down. Spend extra for an Airbnb. Do not stay here.
