Days Inn by Wyndham Fort Payne

The proprietor was kind and helpful with what I needed during my four-night stay while I waited for a business transaction to be completed. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the pillows reminded me of home. Some people complain about breakfast, but a snack and coffee are enough for me until I’m ready for breakfast. I’d definitely stay again.

We left and rebooked up the road, following the front desk clerk’s advice. She was courteous and honest, showed us another room that was just as bad, and even said she wouldn’t stay there with her own kids. She recommended the Hampton or Avid hotel up the road. I wouldn’t let my family sleep in the room: it felt dingy and poorly maintained, with a possible bedbug risk. There was a dead baby roach under the sink, a fly on the bed, and visible dirt and debris behind the beds where the awkward base design makes cleaning nearly impossible. The plumbing fixtures were old and yellowed, with visibly cracked porcelain or veneers, and the ice machine was broken. The place was a huge disappointment compared with the listing and my experiences at other Days Inns. It didn’t look like a true standalone hotel either. It shared a parking lot and seemed like an extension of the EconoLodge next door, with exterior room access like a motel. When we arrived late at night, the front of the building wasn’t lit and the parking lot was very dark, which felt unsafe. Shortly after check-in, police showed up in the lot with lights flashing during what looked like a drug bust. That’s not the atmosphere you want on a family road trip. This place shouldn’t be listed at its current star level or at the price we paid. It wasn’t safe, clean, or up to the standard I expect from a Days Inn or Wyndham property.

The shower barely had any pressure, and the water never got above lukewarm. Still, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and for that price I’d stay again.

When we got in, the lights in the room wouldn’t turn on, though we eventually got that fixed. Then we found out the TV was out throughout the whole place. The mattress springs popped whenever I moved, and the parking was limited near our room. The lot wasn’t lit very well either. We tried to find another hotel, but they were all full. I’d never recommend staying here.
