Historic Sion Bass Guest House

The stairs were so steep and narrow that my husband couldn’t get up them, and I had to make two trips with our bags. We didn’t end up staying. There’s only a tiny parking area, so we also had to hike in. The listing should mention the stairs, since they wouldn’t work for elderly people or anyone with bad knees. That was $170 down the tubes.

The furnishings were interesting and attractive, except for a closet that was under construction. Still, I couldn’t recommend this place even if it were free. The water never got hot, so the shower was cold, and the tub walls were too high to step over. The wash basin had no counter space and was in a separate room from the toilet. Breakfast was just a few packaged rolls and biscuits, with water or coffee. Nothing hot or cold beyond that, so we bought breakfast after leaving. The landscaping was weedy, and we never saw a caretaker or manager. Parking was behind the building, with the entrance in front. The street signage was hard to miss.

It’s been a few years since our last visit, and cleanliness, quality, and service have all improved a lot. Thanks to the new owners. We’ll be back, and the tubs are great!
