Candlewood Suites Frederick by IHG

The pool was out of order, which was a downside. Otherwise, this hotel is good value for the money. It's a little farther from the highways than the Marriott compound in town, but worth the drive for the price. The rooms are very large, with a full kitchen and cooktop, and our King room had a recliner. The bed was firm, the water pressure was great, and the clean hard floors meant no mystery stains.

I've generally loved IHG hotels as a military member, and this was the only nearby IHG option at a good price while we were visiting family in Frederick on a trip through West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland toward DC. The suite was a decent size and looked good. The bed was fine, though it shifted easily if pushed, and the TV was unreliable, with many channels not working. Some spots on the recently painted walls looked missed or lightly painted. None of that was a major issue, and I don't expect perfection. What surprised me was the so-so service. I've stayed at a lot of IHG hotels, but the front desk person wasn't a good communicator. When I asked about the TV, he seemed unprepared to answer or unwilling to talk. His pause made me feel I couldn't rely on him for anything. It was disconcerting, and I'm glad I didn't have a real problem needing help. I'd suggest the IHG in Brunswick/Harpers Ferry instead. Their service was amazing, and we should have driven back there rather than staying in Frederick.

The suite was cleaner and more comfortable than I expected, and parking was easy. It was very affordable, too. The front desk staff were really friendly.

I've been here for three weeks so far for a three-month work stay, and it's been great. My suite feels like a little apartment with everything I need to be comfortable. Everyone on staff has been friendly, polite, and professional.
