Downtown Frederick is charming and easy to explore from here, though the price is a bit high. It's the only hotel downtown, which is why we came, and we were also within an hour of The Visitation. Our main reason for the trip was Wye Oak Tavern, and staying overnight meant we could avoid the risk of driving home. Our room was spacious, well furnished, quiet, and tucked away. Marriott kept a surprising number of the building's original architectural details, with some subtly carried into the rooms. The bed felt a little too hard for me. Staff were helpful and friendly, and they upgraded us to an executive room at no charge. Reception also agreed to our late checkout without hesitation. Take a look around the hotel. The walls have photos of the school and its attendees, along with some original stained glass.

Visitation Hotel is beautiful and in a fantastic location, but our annual team retreat felt short on hospitality for the amount of money and effort involved. For our small business, the retreat was a significant investment and a special way to celebrate our hardworking team. Because check-in wasn't until 4 pm and we had meetings earlier, I called ahead to ask whether our bags could be stored. The answer was no, with very little flexibility. One response was, “I didn’t know you didn’t want your team to touch their bags.” It came across as dismissive, especially for a professional group of our size. We also asked about putting cards in the rooms. I understand that may not be possible for a small hotel, and that explanation made sense, but the tone still felt unaccommodating. We wanted all 15 rooms checked in before the team arrived so we wouldn't spend ages at the front desk. After several refusals, they eventually agreed, but it took considerable effort. The meeting room also required us to buy all food and drinks from the hotel, with no outside options. For the price, the food was very expensive and only mediocre. The property had a lot of potential for a memorable retreat, but with hospitality and flexibility being priorities, we'd consider other options for a group of this scale.

The reception dinner and dancing in the ballroom felt elegant, and cocktail hour in the tent was lovely. The cocktails were fantastic, the food was exceptional, and several guests told us they'd never had better food at a wedding reception. The bar and wait staff were professional and helped make the celebration fun. We booked Visitation for our daughter's wedding before the property was even fully finished, so we knew we were taking a chance without reviews or a track record. It turned out even better than we hoped. Mazie made planning seamless and brought our vision to life. Highly recommend!

We got married at The Visitation Hotel in early November, and it worked perfectly as both the reception venue and a home base for our guests over the wedding weekend. Its downtown Frederick location was hard to beat. The church, shops, restaurants, and bars were all easy to reach on foot, and having rooms, catering, and bar service together was so convenient. Our guests are still talking about the food and service. The staff were kind, attentive, and proactive, and the whole team worked smoothly with our vendors. Mazie, our venue lead, arranged a wonderful menu tasting and checked in during the big day. At cocktail hour, the service team made sure we got to try everything as the guests of honor. Such a thoughtful touch. We wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to anyone getting married in Frederick.

Room 304 was quiet, secluded, and nicely appointed. We stopped at the bar for drinks even though we didn't eat at the restaurant. Some may find a bar in a renovated chapel distasteful, but I thought it was beautifully done. Staff were prompt, courteous, and friendly, and we'll definitely return. The Marriott fills a big gap since there aren't currently other hotels in downtown Frederick. I didn't know the building when it was a girls' school, so I can't compare it before and after the renovation, but I found the hotel exceptional and a little quirky. Valet and second-floor check-in signs were clear. There are three city parking garages within three blocks or less, which I'd recommend for saving some money. Rates aren't cheap, though the rooms are very nice. The downtown restaurants, breweries, and distilleries are close and make the location hard to beat. As other reviewers have said, I'd be cautious about first-floor rooms, especially those below the bar, restaurant, or reception area.
