Econo Lodge Spotsylvania Town Center

Clean rooms and great customer service. The location is prime, with shopping, dining, and entertainment for adults and kids very close by. Public transit is nearby too, if you need it or just don’t want to drive.

I wish I could give this no stars. I arrived at 12:45 a.m., tired after six hours of driving, with a booking.com reservation for two double-bed rooms. One room looked fairly clean, with hardwood floors and only a slight musty mildew smell. My room smelled strongly of mildew, so I asked to switch. They moved us downstairs, where the odor was lighter but still noticeable. It kept me from sleeping well, and when I got up around 6 a.m. I noticed black discoloration across several parts of the white bathroom ceiling. I went to the front desk to report it. The manager offered another switch after 11 a.m., but I wanted the reservation canceled. She came to see it and first said it was probably dirt. Seeing the bathroom, she didn’t deny it was mold, looked shocked, and apologized several times, saying it had been overlooked and housekeeping hadn’t brought it to her attention. I saw long-term renters while waiting for cancellation confirmation, which I had to handle through booking.com. We went to another hotel, where they let us see the room before booking; it was in a beautiful area with a pool and great accommodations, at THE BEST WESTERN. I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay at this ECONO LODGE unless it were knocked down and redone. Black mold is deadly, and it’s shameful to rent rooms where kids and adults are breathing those spores. I’ll keep reporting this place because I don’t think it’s safe. I’m posting photos and a video of the black mold.

Check-in and checkout were quick and easy, and the front desk staff were really friendly and helpful. Still, I wouldn’t stay here again, even though the whole experience wasn’t terrible. We paid about $100 for one weekend night. Most of the room was fairly clean, but the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in over a month: dirt on the walls, lots of shower grime, dust built up on the hair dryer and outlet, stained towels, and a toilet seat coming off its hinge. The strongest problem was the very heavy cigarette smell in a room we’d booked as non-smoking. Everything we brought home smelled like smoke and needed a thorough wash. I’m upset my baby breathed that air all night.

Sally and Anthony at the front desk were a big help during our drive from New York to Florida. We had a very nice stay, and I recommend this affordable, pleasant hotel.
