Hampton Inn & Suites Fredericksburg South

I’ve stayed here many times and found bedbugs on several visits. I know what to look for and how to avoid them, so it’s unacceptable that the hotel hasn’t addressed the problem. Stay away if you don’t know how to identify bedbugs. If you bring them home, they’re incredibly hard to get rid of.

The room itself wasn’t in acceptable shape: the beds were made incorrectly, the desk chair looked dirty, and the outdated TV had cable that wasn’t working properly. I also felt unwelcome from the moment I arrived. No one greeted me, and the way I was treated made me uncomfortable. I can’t say for certain, but I felt I may have been treated differently because of my skin color. I stayed with a guest on February 26-27. As a Hilton team member who has stayed at many Hilton-brand hotels, this was unfortunately my worst experience. The General Manager, Japesh, as he identified himself, refused to let me add a guest to the room after check-in. From my experience as a former Front Office Manager, that didn’t seem consistent with Hilton policy. When I tried to explain, he became disrespectful and verbally confrontational, saying I had never worked in a hotel and didn’t know what I was talking about. I was also charged twice for the stay. When I raised it, he didn’t investigate or try to fix it. I thought about checking out and going elsewhere, but it was late and the cost would have been much higher, so we stayed and made the best of it. This was my first stay at this property, and it will be my last.

We stayed one night in a king studio while traveling from Florida to Maine. The mattress was quite firm, and both my wife and I woke up with sore shoulders. The bathroom fan didn’t clear the air, so shower humidity and odors lingered. Water pressure was mediocre, and the room’s trash can still had the previous guest’s garbage.

We’d stayed here a few times before, but this was our last visit. The room door was so hard to open and close that it felt like a fire hazard, and my husband got a shock from a lamp that was missing a bulb. We had asked for a double queen room for three people, but were given a single king. At the desk they said they hadn’t realized it only had a king bed and had no double queens left, so I barely slept and had to use a chair. The front desk said the manager would try to accommodate me when they came in the morning. When I asked for the manager then, they said the manager wasn’t in yet and would call later. Five days have passed and I’m still waiting.
