The rooms are very basic, more like studio apartments. Housekeeping comes only every two weeks. For towels, tissues, or a bar of soap, you have to ask at the front desk. To get fresh towels, bring yours to the laundry cart by the office and exchange them for a plastic bag of clean ones.

After our dad’s funeral, my sisters and I needed a place at short notice. Nearby hotels were booked because of a concert and several conferences, and this was the only option we found within 15 miles. I was grateful Extended Stay America could take a same-day booking. It was affordable at $220 for a Tuesday night, for two queen beds and three people. Reserving through an agent and checking in were easy, parking was convenient, and the place felt clean and welcoming. We heard a baby crying through the thin walls several times overnight. Around 5 a.m., a group of workers gathered for coffee and were loud outside our door and in the foyer. Those were ordinary hotel noise problems. The bigger issue was the Wi-Fi. I paid for an upgrade so I could teach my Zoom class, but it cut off right at checkout, while I was quietly sitting in the common kitchenette with nobody else around. I’ve never been disconnected immediately after checkout at other hotels, especially after paying for upgraded Wi-Fi. I appreciated having somewhere safe and affordable in a pinch, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you need dependable internet for remote work or teaching. Be ready to use your phone hotspot if you need to work beyond checkout.

The receptionist was great, but the place looks like a set from a haunted movie. There’s also a horrible smell. Whoever handles maintenance needs to get their nose and sinuses cleaned out.

I travel for work around San Jose, Fremont, and Santa Clara and have stayed at plenty of hotels. This was easily one of the worst. The room was dirty and run-down, with a grimy shower curtain, hairs, and old-looking, dingy towels. The kitchen cabinets were in bad shape, and I wouldn’t want to cook there. Getting in and out of the entrance was difficult, and the elevator was filthy. I don’t want to stay here again or recommend it.
