The trouble started in the parking lot. Staff specifically told me where it was safe to leave my locked U-Haul, but it was robbed. When police came, the front desk clerk shrugged and said, literally, "I don't know" when asked which guest owned the vehicle. They even lost the officer's contact card. I filed a guest incident report and got no calls, no apology, and no accountability. Inside, the smell of stale dog and cat urine was pungent, and the train roared past with its whistle every twenty minutes. The Jacuzzi water was so filmy that I felt dirtier after using it. The free breakfast was subpar, too. I was treated as if being robbed and ignored were an acceptable trade for that breakfast. If you want your belongings stolen and your dignity shredded, stay here. Otherwise, keep driving.

I never checked in. My wife booked the room for me through booking.com, but as I got out of the car, an Orkin employee was talking with someone about spraying their room for bed bugs. I asked if there were bed bugs, and he said they were confirmed in that guest's room. That was enough for me to find another hotel nearby. I called about a refund, and the booking.com representative was understanding. They checked with the hotel, confirmed the bed bugs, and told me I should get my money back. The next day I got an email saying booking.com and La Quinta couldn't reach an agreement, so I was given $11 in travel credits. A terrible experience. I have a picture of the Orkin man in the lobby with his chemical spray kit, but won't post it out of respect for him.

The bed was made neatly, the sheets and pillowcases looked clean, and the mattress was comfortable enough for a few hours of sleep. That ended when a freight train roared by across the street at 5 a.m. Breakfast was average, and even the fountain drinks tasted strongly of tonic water. I returned my key and left. Before that, parking had been extremely limited. My only space was tight and beside what looked like a leaking sewer, with trash and paint residue running into the sidewalk and lot. The front desk greeting was cold, and I saw guests with several dogs in the hallways and breakfast room. The lobby and room smelled acceptable, but the room itself was poorly kept: heavily stained carpet, scratched and worn furniture, and crooked wall décor. There was pubic hair on the toilet, the shower and toilet pressure were very low, and the toilet took several flushes. Even after disinfecting it, I still didn't feel it was sanitary enough to sit on. The old, dirty-looking AC unit had a torn vent. I wasn't sure it worked, so I left it alone, and the room temperature wasn't comfortable. This was a deeply disappointing stay, nowhere near luxury or comfortable. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for quality accommodations.

The woman who checked us in was very friendly, and the breakfast worker seemed to be trying to keep up, though she could have used help. I wouldn't recommend staying here. The hotel was dirty and run down. Our room seemed fairly clean at first, but needed more attention. The carpet was dirty, the couch stained and torn, and the wooden furniture badly scratched and chipped. A metal piece of the bed frame stuck out several inches and could easily hurt someone. There appeared to be blood on the wall near the window, and the bathroom shower needed a good scrub. There was also evidence of water leaking on the room ceiling. The hallways were filthy, with bits of trash and clumps of dirt everywhere. The elevator floor was dirty, its bulbs needed replacing, and you couldn't see the floor number until the doors opened and it was visible on the wall. The door-close button was missing, leaving a hole into the electrical controls, and some ceiling light covers were gone. Dogs barked noisily near our room, seemingly from two different rooms. Soon after arriving I had a bad allergic reaction and trouble breathing. Animals are the only allergies that cause an asthma attack for me. It's not usually dogs, but I didn't see any horses in the building, either. There was just one luggage cart. The guests before us used it and didn't return it, so we made several trips to unpack. Breakfast had problems, though the woman working seemed to be trying. The juice machine was out of order and the milk jugs were empty, leaving only coffee and lobby water to drink, with no cereal. The water tasted bad, so bring bottled water if you need it. Eggs ran out just after more were put out, and the yogurt and hard-boiled eggs were gone while I waited and weren't replenished. She refilled the waffle batter, but with only one waffle iron everyone had to wait. Once the eggs, milk, hard-boiled eggs, bacon, and yogurt were gone, waffles or toast were all that was left, and people had quite a wait. I had booked partly to use the hot tub, but both it and the pool were unavailable.

It was dirty everywhere, from the floors and carpets to the restrooms, and there was mold in the tub. The management's attitude was miserable, as if they hated their jobs. Breakfast is supposed to run Monday to Friday, 6 to 9 a.m., but employees and the manager kept telling people who were still eating at 8:45 that they were closing and we could eat whatever was there. It was rude and uncomfortable. They should stop cooking at 9. We bring business to this place and deserve to be treated with respect and a decent attitude. If they're so unhappy working with us, they should find another job.
