SpringHill Suites by Marriott Fresno

Management contacted me after I completed their internal survey and comped the room charge, which I appreciate. I changed my rating from 1 star to 2 because the staff were consistently great. Cleanliness was still a major problem across both rooms. Room 208 hadn't been cleaned well, and the mattress where my son was meant to sleep had pee stains. I showed the woman at the front desk a photo and asked if we could move from the king and pull out sofa to 2 queens. She was really nice and switched us right away. We moved everything to room 204, but the walls and ceilings were very dirty, the chair and couch had stains and fluids, possibly bodily, and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling and inside the shower. There was also something brown on the shower curtain beside the toilet, if you get what I'm saying. The hotel was super nasty all around. I think those "renovations" have been ongoing for 6+ years, based on older reviews. Construction equipment outside looked like it had sat there for years without being used, and nothing seemed recently renovated. Google reviews didn't look bad when I checked, but I should have looked at Yelp, where the reviews seemed to match our experience better.

Nothing about our stay was positive. The property is under renovation and, frankly, shouldn't take guests until the work is done. Construction made the entrance hard to find, while barriers and the shared lot with a neighboring hotel made parking nearly impossible to navigate. Being charged for parking in those circumstances felt unreasonable. We booked a room with two beds but got one bed and a sofa bed. When we raised it with the receptionist, we were told the rooms were being renovated, though ours looked old and worn. Most amenities didn't work properly: the air conditioner rattled loudly all night, and the lights took several seconds to come on, if they worked at all. I wouldn't recommend staying until the renovation is complete and the property is properly maintained.

Doug, the maintenance man, was awesome. He kindly put new batteries in my son's toy, giving him hours of fun and saving me a trip to CVS. The suite was very nice and slept 5 perfectly. While I was writing this, the location was under construction, making it awkward to move around the outside perimeter.

The breakfast was the one part that fell short. The selection and quality could have been better, though we know it’s hard to serve a five-star meal with guests constantly coming and going. It didn’t take much away from our stay. We had two rooms for our family of five, and both were spacious and clean. SpringHill Suites Fresno was comfortable and met our expectations. We’d consider staying there again.
