Studio 6 Fresno, CA - Extended Stay

We were told there was no kitchenware in the room, despite it being promised, and the shower leaked from the side of the shower head. There was trash in the drawers, barely one hanger in the closet, and one bed had no comforter. The room was supposed to have two beds, but we only got two towels, and there was no soap. Getting more towels was a whole ordeal. Even though I said I had kids with me, they wouldn’t give us more until I brought the old ones down. I had to take the two we had, hand them over, and then received two replacements. There are no elevators for regular guests, only one for people staying long term. Take cash for the deposit if you want it back. The service was horrible, and $180 was far too much for this place. Honestly, even giving it one star feels generous.

We left without staying, even after being moved to another room. The first room had roaches on the walls and pillows, in the microwave, and even in the bathtub. There was hair on the sheets and cigarette burns on the bedding, although the room itself looked clean in terms of grime and housekeeping. The second room had fewer roaches, but we still saw some, and it smelled strongly of marijuana from a previous guest. People were openly getting high in the parking lot, which made the property feel unsafe and poorly managed. The front desk attendant was patient and professional. He offered us another room without us having to ask, and when we requested a refund, he issued the full amount. His movements while printing the receipt seemed a little sassy, but I suspect he has a very tough job dealing with the conditions and the people around the property. He handled the situation properly in the end. Later, family told us the state often uses the property to shelter some of the local unhoused population. That explained the activity outside, but it isn’t something someone from out of town would know when booking online. I’ve stayed at Motel 6 locations in other states without problems, so I expected something basic and clean. The online photos look fantastic, but they don’t match the current reality with the bug problem. The rates are affordable, and I understand you get what you pay for, but pest control, clean linens, and a sense of safety are basic expectations anywhere. This Studio 6 needs significant attention before it’s ready for guests. We couldn’t stay and can’t recommend it.

The receptionists were efficient at check-in and check-out, and I appreciated being allowed in about 30 minutes before the official check-in time. But this place was rough. There were dead cockroaches in the bedroom and bathroom, and I killed a couple that day. The next morning I woke up with live roaches on the bed and found them in the shower too. The wall-mounted cupboard looked like it might fall off, and the pool was closed and locked. Not a clean or welcoming place.

There was a lot of homeless activity at night, which really shows what’s wrong with this particular Motel. Our room was dirty when we arrived, with black fuzz and dirt everywhere. Then we got locked out for part of the first night and had to change rooms. Terrible experience.
