Farhad was a superb host, with a wonderful breakfast and lovely piano evenings. We spent 5 nights in the Garden Room for our anniversary, and its own patio and private entrance were great. The location also worked perfectly for exploring the island.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the property well maintained. It’s a short walk, 5 or 6 blocks, to the businesses by the water. We were there for a 2-night birthday stay, and the place could have been lovely, but the owner’s behavior left us feeling awkward and unwelcome. On our first morning we went for a long walk and returned about 10 minutes after the advertised 8:30 breakfast start. Since it was a gorgeous morning, we asked if we could eat on the deck. The owner was displeased and said it inconvenienced him if we didn’t tell them in advance that we didn’t want to eat with the other guests. His girlfriend served us breakfast, apologized for his comment, and said, “this is not for everyone.” We’ve stayed at B&Bs before, but this one felt different. The owner seemed to put his own interests ahead of the guests and expected us to follow his playbook. It set the tone for the rest of our first visit to the islands. We ended up sneaking through the hotel to avoid him and staying away whenever we could. I’d suggest the website clearly explain that guests are expected to align with the owner’s preferences or risk scrutiny.

Farhad, the innkeeper and owner, was friendly, knowledgeable, cordial, and an accomplished pianist. The rooms were beautiful, and ours had a great view of Mount Baker from the balcony. Breakfast was delicious too. We looked at several B&Bs on San Juan Island and feel we found the best one.

The owner is very knowledgeable about the island and is an amazing chef, pianist, and all-around talent. My room was comfortable, and breakfast was great each morning. My stay at Friday Harbor Grand B&B was extraordinary, and I’d return in a heartbeat.

We’ve stayed here several times and always enjoy it. The property is comfortable, well appointed, and has a real at-home feeling. The proprietor is friendly, plays piano well, and is an even better chef. Getting around is easy: it’s a 7 minute walk from the airport and 10 minutes to downtown and the ferry. We fly in and couldn’t ask for a more convenient place. I can’t recommend it enough.
