Fairfield Inn & Suites Salt Lake City South

Getting in from the west, the turn off the highway felt a bit sketchy. Once inside, though, the lobby was comfortable and welcoming, and check-in was quick and friendly. Our room was clean and roomy, the king bed was comfortable, and there was even an extra blanket, which a lot of hotels forget. Breakfast had a good mix of hot and cold choices. They take good care of the place.

Getting to the hotel was a little janky, almost like going down an alley behind other businesses, and it’s a bit off the main path. The neighborhood itself seemed fine, with plenty of things nearby. For around $150, this was a mid-to-low priced option among the Marriot Bonvoy hotels in the area. The room was basic, as expected, but clean and had a nice bed, a good desk setup, working AC, and lots of light. The front desk staff were professional and helpful, and they were there when needed instead of leaving us waiting. Breakfast was excellent too. Everything worked well, and I’d definitely come back.

The breakfast was the weak point for us. There weren’t eggs or many healthy choices, just waffles, cereal, and packaged muffins. When guests asked the staff to refill empty trays, they snapped back with “no,” even though breakfast still had 30-45 minutes to go. The warmers were switched off and the juice was closed off well before the stated end time. Apart from that, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and the stay was good.

The service was the worst I’ve experienced across hundreds of stays at different Marriott properties. In three separate incidents, Assistant manager Raj made me, my spouse, and my children very uncomfortable. I eventually had to tell the kids they couldn’t leave the room unless an adult went with them. Managers need to talk with Raj about customer service and what conduct with minors is appropriate.
