Blue Ridge Motel

We were in town for the Homesteaders of America 2023 conference and wanted an affordable room since we mostly just needed a place to sleep. The room was very small, the smallest I’ve ever stayed in, so I wouldn’t choose it for traveling with kids. It also smelled a bit stale at first, though airing it out with the windows open helped. On the good side, we slept well, the shower was always hot, and having a microwave and mini fridge was handy for reheating meals I’d made. We got fresh towels, toilet paper, and soap each day, and customer service was good. I’d recommend Blue Ridge if you want to save money and get a good night’s sleep.

The front desk management was professional and courteous, and the room attendant did a great job. They replaced our towels with clean ones on our first day. The place is a good value and quite clean, though it’s an old-fashioned 1950s style establishment with antiquated fixtures.

The one issue was that the shower’s hot water stopped at one point, which is why I gave it four stars. Otherwise, it was a good value for the location and quality. I was surprised by how clean the motel was, and the maids deserve credit for that. The staff were friendly, the beds were pretty comfortable, and they provide towels and toiletries, which I don’t usually expect at motels.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It was the nastiest hotel I’ve ever been in. There was a terrible smell, and the place felt sketchy. I’m pretty sure drug deals were going on there. The blinds looked like they’d never been cleaned, with what seemed like five inches of dust on them, and there was dried blood on the walls and bathroom door.
