Super 8 by Wyndham Gainesville TX

It was quiet, and I slept well. The room did what I needed for the night, and the service was fine, though there’s not much else to say about it. Getting to WinStar Casino was easy, but construction blocks the entrance out front, so you have to go through the business next door. It looked a little dirty at first, but I wiped things down and didn’t find dirt. Don’t expect robes, slippers, or fluffy towels; this isn’t a five-star hotel. For an inexpensive night, it works. I skipped the waffles, though they looked good, and the coffee was really good. We also grabbed fruit for the road.

The owners and staff were friendly, and our vehicle was fine in the parking lot, though we worried about leaving it there overnight. That was about all I liked. The hotel looked nothing like its online photos and felt very run down, with a strong garlic smell everywhere. Our room was tolerable, but not clean enough for us to feel at ease. The sheets were scratchy, the bed lumpy, and we wouldn’t shower there. We stayed just long enough to sleep a few hours, then left well before dawn because I couldn’t stand another minute. For what it cost, it wasn’t worth it to me. It could be a great place given how close it is to Winstar Casino, and lots of people use that location. I’ve had a much better stay at another Super 8. I’d spend a little more for a nicer room.

There aren’t any smoking rooms, in case that matters. The rooms are clean but dated, and all the doors face inward. It’s hard to park where you can see your car from the window, and the middle rooms are a long walk from outside. My receipt said checkout at 12am. I read that as noon, so part of the mix-up was mine and part theirs. A man knocked on my door at 11 am, but didn’t speak English. At the desk I showed the receipt and then noticed it said midnight. The person there also barely spoke English, so I doubt the problem will be addressed.

Great location, good breakfast, and a clean, nice room. We loved it!
