Oakwood Gaithersburg

The location is very good, and the regular apartment management seems fine. My problems are with Oakwood and the condition and service of its units. You pay a premium, around $100 a day, for a supposedly fully equipped corporate apartment, but I was never satisfied and would never stay in one of theirs again. They tell you to move in, buy groceries, and that Oakwood covers everything else. That wasn’t true. The kitchen had exactly 3 pans, 4 plates, glasses and coffee mugs, but no pan lids. The knife, scissors and scraper were rusty, and I’d have to buy what I needed to cook. The utensils were years old and I didn’t want to use them. Appliances were old too: they switched on but didn’t work properly. The washer needed at least three cycles to clean clothes, and the dryer also took repeated runs to dry them. Every morning there were bugs, and every unit is right by the trash chute, so the smell and noise when people throw things away are awful. The blinds weren’t good, so I asked for curtains, but they brought cheap, see-through ones that didn’t help. Staff weren’t great either. You have to follow up on everything, and they don’t communicate with one another, so reported issues get lost. After all these complaints, the manager emailed asking for a 5 rating and saying to contact them immediately if I couldn’t give one. I was astounded by that email. I’ve never had such bad service or lived in such a bad corporate apartment.
