The location was great, and the food was excellent. The Steamboat House was the reason my mother and I came to Galena for the weekend, and it exceeded what we’d hoped for. The interior is gorgeous and the rooms are cozy. Carol was a lovely host, with thoughtful details that made the trip memorable. Such a gem, I’d happily recommend it to other travelers.

We’ve been to Galena more than 12 times over the years, and this was our best stay. The host was wonderful, the homemade breakfast was excellent, and we met some great people at breakfast too. Fantastic B&B!

Carol makes the stay feel personal, from the homemade breakfast in the dining room to coffee at 7 am and wine and cheese at 5. She even had homemade cookies for our last night. The bedrooms are upstairs on the second floor, and downtown is about a half-mile walk. If you like places that feel quaint, nostalgic, and historic, this is just right.

The front porch was lovely, and the house is close to Main Street. Carol was so kind. We had motorcycles and, because it was raining, she offered several times to let us use her covered space for shelter. We hadn’t even asked. The whole beautiful house felt clean and inviting, and I couldn’t choose which room to sit in. It has 10-foot ceilings, and breakfast was just right.

Built in 1855 by a lead-mining and steamboat entrepreneur, this is one of Galena’s grand old homes. It’s furnished in period style but has modern amenities. Carol is a wonderful hostess, and there’s ample parking. Main Street’s shops and restaurants are within walking distance.
