Candlewood Suites Galveston by IHG

The people running the place were very nice, and it's a decent place to sleep before a cruise. Beyond that, I'd look for another hotel. Calling it two stars feels generous. It's old and needs a complete overhaul, and my room looked out either onto the street or a trash dump. I had the trash dump view.

Loved the location, and we didn't hear busy beach traffic all night. The room was really nice, with incredibly comfortable beds, a full-size fridge, and a two-burner stove. The shower pressure was amazing. Housekeeping was the letdown: we had to take the used towels down to get clean ones, and do the same for the sheets. We even had to put the fresh sheets on the bed ourselves.

We won't stay here again. There are no ADA rooms, and the bed advertised as a queen was definitely a full or smaller. The elevator also stopped unevenly at the second floor, nearly tipping me out of my wheelchair before I realized how big the gap was. Edited 1/3/26: I want to clarify the owner's response. We booked and paid for the second night through trivago months ahead, for 11/8. While driving to Galveston, we realized we needed to add the first night, 11/7, and I made those reservations, not my husband. We arrived at midnight on 11/7/2025 and went to sleep. The next day I asked the front desk for an ADA queen room for the already-paid second night. They said all rooms were the same. I can promise that mattress was not a standard American queen. We had to stay because everything was sold out during the big biker rally in Galveston that weekend. I never asked for a discount or anything, even though the room wasn't what had been advertised, and everything I said was true. The owner argued with me as if they had found dirt on me and tried to make it sound like my husband extended the stay after arrival. That isn't what happened. I had already decided not to return, but seeing the response may lead other people to the same decision. They should have said nothing instead of attacking me. I'll be contacting corporate. By the way, I just booked a Holiday Inn on the beach in Galveston for our January 2026 cruise, and it's significantly cheaper than this place.

I've been staying here for my cruises since 2016, and I won't go anywhere else. The manager and franchise owner is an awesome guy, and his whole team is just as welcoming. The hotel is quiet, the bathrooms are clean, and there are plenty of towels and quality soaps. The bed is the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. He'll help with anything you need. He even offered to help get my mobility scooter off the back of my pickup, along with any other assistance I might need. This is about the cleanest motel I've seen in years. I paid $120 for one night before a cruise, which felt like good value when lots of other rooms in town were $150 to nearly $300.
