Ramada by Wyndham Painted Post Corning

The renovation looks really nice, and our room was one of the newly redone ones. The stay wasn’t bad, honestly, though some of the appliances and furnishings were very old: the air conditioner, lamp, beds, window, and curtains. The bathroom had no fan, and a couple of the light switches seemed to do nothing. There wasn’t a ceiling light in the main room, so it got very dark at night. The water came out cloudy and muddy, probably because of the construction, so run it for at least five to ten minutes if you’re in a renovated room. Breakfast was still being handed out in bags from the lobby: a frozen breakfast burger, fruit cup, orange juice, and a tiny blueberry muffin, with a microwave available there. For the price, it really wasn’t as bad as the reviews made it sound, and I liked how the renovation turned out.

The front desk staff were quick and friendly, and our room was very clean. I think we may have been the first guests in it after the remodel. It felt fresh and smelled a little like new flooring and paint, but not too strongly. I also liked the wood-look vinyl plank floors instead of carpet, though that may be easier for cleaning up pet hair. We travel with our four-year-old golden retriever, who seems to love exploring, and the pet cleaning fee was low. We felt we paid a little more than we should have, but not by much. The messy common areas were the part that bothered me. Even after the crew had finished for the night, there were chunks of plaster in the hallway to our room and old mattresses leaning against the walls between the stairwell and the exit near us. The back entrance foyer was messy too. Maybe no one was staying in those rooms, but it was irritating when we were paying over $100 a night to rest on a road trip. Otherwise, staff were friendly, the location worked well for a break, and the pet fee was reasonable.

The front desk staff have been nice and professional each time, with a good sense of humor. I’ve stayed here a few times for work out of town and will probably come back. It’s fairly cheap, so don’t expect anything fancy, and the place could use more upkeep. The shower pressure is good and the water stays hot; my room was fairly clean and the bed was so-so. On my most recent stay there weren’t enough maids because employees were off work due to Covid, so my room wasn’t cleaned daily. That was okay for me, though it might bother someone else. There’s no elevator, only stairs to the second floor. Aside from that, things were okay.

The room was spacious and had a nice desk and work area, which worked well for business. I liked the room a lot. I picked this place mainly for the gym, so I wish they’d mentioned that there wasn’t one. The bathroom is tiny, and the tap water tastes pretty gross if you drink it. Bring bottled water.
