Comfort Inn Garden City

The staff were genuinely kind and friendly, and I hate having to leave a bad review. But the room was awful, and I wish I’d checked the recent reviews before booking. They moved me to a King Suite because the standard room I’d reserved supposedly had plumbing problems. Renovations were underway, with construction in the halls and my room number taped to the door. That part didn’t bother me. The room seemed okay at first, but switching on the AC brought out a stale, musty smell. The bathroom was much worse. As soon as I turned on the light, the exhaust fan started and filled the space with a smell I can’t really describe. It was horrible, and I didn’t feel safe breathing it. A bit of ceiling came loose and fell on me. Looking up, I saw extensive water damage and paint barely hanging on. I even wondered whether the bathtub above could come through the ceiling, and I was nervous about using the shower. The tub drain looked like something was growing on the metal. I was there for work, they said there were no other rooms, and eventually I had to shower anyway. I kept worrying about what was in the air. Could it be mold from the HVAC, or some kind of poisonous gas? I had no idea if I’d wake up the next day. Comfort Inn, please fix this. It was horrible to put paying guests in that room.

The one bright spot was the staff. They were friendly, and they let me use the breakfast room for an online meeting. I had to turn my phone into a hotspot, though, since the hotel internet was down most of our stay. We only found out about the renovation when we arrived. The grounds weren’t being maintained or mowed, and there wasn’t a decent place to take our dog without getting burrs in her fur. Our room was dirty, with filthy carpet and a grimy bathroom. I also wasn’t acknowledged as a Choice Rewards member.

The newly remodeled room had no hot water. The young woman at the front desk was unhelpful and rude. She blamed me for booking through a third party and said I should have checked the room when I checked in. I absolutely don’t recommend this motel.

The pool was so dark I couldn’t see its bottom, and the pool area was hotter than outside. The whole stay felt like being in an abandoned complex. Renovations were going on throughout the hotel, with trim removed, lights hanging off walls, and room numbers taped to doors. In my first room, the lock wasn’t securely attached and the door jammed, so I asked to move. They should maybe book guests only on floors that aren’t under construction and work on one floor at a time.
