Iris Garden Inn

Our beds had rodent droppings all over them, and there were mice in the rooms. Nobody offered a refund, just said, “sorry about that.” Only stay if you want wildlife in your room.

The area didn't feel safe to me, and seemed deserted. Inside, there were dirty towels with black marks, leftover belongings in the drawers, and a bathroom door that wouldn't shut or lock. The breakfast was awful, as if yesterday's food had just been reheated. Thin walls meant we heard a neighbor talking, a dog barking four rooms away, and the person upstairs. At check-in, we were put in a handicapped room even though we hadn't booked one. When we asked to switch, the receptionist said Expedia had assigned it because we booked there. I'd want the rooms cleaned, the towels replaced, fresher breakfast, and the bathroom doors fixed before recommending this place.

The bus driver was the best part of this hotel, easily five stars. He was friendly and personable, and I heard he's also the maintenance man. He told us the shuttle would leave at 8 Monday morning for St. Patrick's Day. When we tried to sign up Sunday night, the man at the desk insisted there was no 8 a.m. shuttle, pointed at the schedule, and walked away. We came down at 7:45 and the driver was there, ready to go. If they had more people like him, the place would be much better. We booked at the last minute for St. Patrick's Day in Savannah because most hotels were full. iris Garden Inn looked okay online, with a decent price and comments about a recent remodel. The lobby was small but nice, though the front desk staff's attitude and service were poor. The elevator inspection had expired in 2024, which I think is a safety hazard. On the second floor, the hallway smelled moldy and dirty, and some lights were out. The room didn't look like the photos. The beds were comfortable and clean, and the shower had hot water and good pressure, but that was about it. Mold was growing on the broken blinds, the window seal looked like it had never been cleaned, and both box springs had stains in the corners. There was no bathroom sink plug, and there was mold on the sink and in the shower. The toilet paper holder was upside down, so the paper kept falling onto the floor. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.

The free breakfast was okay, and I can't complain much about that. The room, though, was muggy and dirty, with greasy floors and a strong cigarette smell as soon as I walked in. I found a deal listed at $100, but with tax it came to $117, plus a $50 deposit they said would be returned later if there was no damage or smoking. I haven't got that deposit back yet. I took pictures of everything on day one so I won't be charged for existing damage. The pool in the pictures might belong to the place next door. I didn't see one, and nobody mentioned it. I'd be cautious about staying here unless it's just for one night.
