Hilton Garden Inn Anaheim Garden Grove

The ART transit stop is right outside the entrance, which made getting around convenient when it was on time. During our visit that route was often late for pickup, though it still worked out well enough. We stayed for three days while visiting Disney. The hotel was nice and clean, with comfortable beds and pillows. The cookies at arrival were delicious, too.

I saw the cheap price and was looking forward to staying, but the hotel only accepts guests 21 and up because it has a bar. Plenty of hotels have bars and ways to stop underage guests from buying drinks, like checking ID when alcohol is purchased. I'm 20, and in this day and age people my age can afford a hotel like this. When I said the policy was stupid, the woman called me stupid. I was appalled by how I was spoken to over the phone, and you've lost a future customer. If I were in another country, this wouldn't be a problem. I believe I spoke with the manager, Davina. Shame. I'll stay at the embassy unless they change this stupid policy.

The fitness center was the most frustrating part of our four-night February stay. I'm a marathon runner, and I chose this hotel partly because the gym was advertised as open 24 hours. On the first morning, all four treadmills were in use and six other people were working out, but it was stifling. The thermostat read 72 degrees and wouldn't go below 70, while the busy room had climbed well over 80. My gym at home keeps its studio at 63. Another runner commented on the heat, and we had to prop the door open with weights for airflow. I told the front desk, who said it would be fixed. The next day nothing had changed, so I reported it again and asked for a manager to confirm once it was addressed. He was supposed to call that morning, but by 2 p.m. I had to follow up again. When he finally rang, he asked me to call him back instead of confirming the repair, so I had to spend time on our Disney trip chasing an issue that shouldn't have been there. He said the thermostat was on a timer and the room wasn't cooled until around 9 a.m. That makes no sense for a gym advertised as open all day, especially for early workouts. He assured me it would be handled, but day three brought the same stale, hot room. I said I'd take it to corporate. A maintenance worker finally came in while I was finishing a workout in what felt like a sauna, checked the thermostat, and said its batteries were dead. That seems like it could've been fixed days earlier. The rest of the property felt worn, too, though the location was fairly convenient, parking easy, and the room appeared clean. I also thought the pink toilet flusher handle looked like a mismatched part thrown together at the last minute. We had to ask three times over six hours for two extra blankets. I messaged through the app around 2 p.m. to have them in the room for our 7 p.m. arrival, and was told they'd be delivered right away. They weren't there when we checked in. We called, were told they'd come immediately, and still had nothing half an hour later. Housekeeping didn't answer, but a very nice front desk supervisor eventually brought them himself. Breakfast was another downside. It cost $25 per person, or I think $20 with a coupon. For a family of four, $80 a day for eggs and waffles seemed overpriced, so we ate elsewhere. Breakfast is usually free at most Hilton properties where we stay, so that surprised me. Overall, a convenient location, but the worn condition and repeated service problems made the stay frustrating.

We had a great one-night stay before heading to the Disneyland resort. The hotel and rooms were spotless, and all the staff were friendly and helpful in a casual, low-pressure way. It was worth every penny, and we'd happily stay again.
