Royal Crest Motel

We stayed for two nights and had a really good rest. The hallways were quiet, clean, and smelled like roses. The employees were helpful and really nice, the room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was great. We were able to enjoy and explore mackunaw Island after a good night’s sleep. The employees were working on the pool while we were there. They said it would be fixed and open again by the following week. Next time we come to Gaylord, we’ll definitely stay at this motel.

I wasn’t expecting a five-star hotel for the price, just a clean place to spend the night. The staff seemed nice, but they couldn’t suggest what to do in town or where to eat, and the place looked deserted when we arrived. There were stains all over the carpet as soon as we found our room, but that was the least of it. When I went for a towel, it had wadded-up maxi pad wrappers in it. Who knows when they’d last been cleaned or changed? The tub had calcium, rust, and grime built up, and there were blood stains on the comforter.

The good: it’s cheap, the staff are nice, the TV worked, and they got things to me pretty quickly when I asked. I didn’t see signs of bedbugs, despite some reviews mentioning them. The room had plenty of issues. It was a bit dirty, though not as bad as some people described, and the beds and pillows were hard. It was very musty, so open the windows. There was no fire alarm on the wall, as the pictures show. The walls were dirty, with yellow outlines where pictures had been removed, as if someone had smoked in the room. The card readers had been taken off the doors and replaced with regular key handles, which is fine but looks bad. Half the bathroom lights were burned out, and the ice machine didn’t work. None of the facilities were open. The pool, spa, and exercise room were all closed; it looked like they were being torn down and hadn’t been used for a while. Management, please fix the things above and maybe I’ll come back.

I was very dissatisfied. The place was dirty and overpriced, and booking sites should have current information so people aren’t misled about room quality and amenities. There was no pool, spa, or fitness room. The back entrance was broken, unsafe, and unsecured, so anyone could walk into the motel. Breakfast was just coffee and Dollar store honey buns, which doesn’t deserve to be called continental breakfast. The only plus was being able to bring my dog, though that cost extra.
