MainStay Suites Geismar - Gonzales

We had a great visit and would definitely come back. Getting our key was quick and easy, and the price was good. The room worked really well for all four of us, with a nice TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. Breakfast was delicious, with a good range of food, different coffees, and hot cocoa. Burger King and McDonald’s are right next door too if you’d rather eat there.

We stayed for two weeks, maybe three, and there were plenty of good breakfast spots and restaurants nearby. The room was great, and the location right off the freeway worked well. Breakfast at the hotel was the letdown, it was cold sometimes.

The hotel is in a handy spot by the freeway, a RaceTrac, and several places to eat. My child and partner liked the breakfast, though I didn’t try it. The rooms looked nice when we arrived, and some staff were good: the woman who checked us in was friendly and helpful, and one of the checkout staff seemed to be doing her best. Still, cleanliness and service were a problem. In my room there were crumbs in the cabinets, hair on the toilet paper holder, dirty bath mats, and stains on the pull-out couch. I didn’t see roaches myself, but pest control was there, which made us pause after reading some reviews beforehand. My family had come from San Diego to Louisiana for my brother’s funeral and had booked four rooms. Before checking out, we told housekeeping we were still in the room and had valuable things there. When we came back, housekeeping was inside, taking our belongings out. Most things were returned, but some were missing and other items had been thrown away, including things I hadn’t finished using. One missing item had belonged to my late brother, so this was especially painful. The general manager, a Caucasian woman who identified herself as such, was dismissive when I tried to discuss what happened and showed no empathy. While I was explaining my concerns, she told me my “energy was off.” When I asked for corporate contact details, she said I could have the number but nothing would be done. I felt unheard and deeply frustrated. I did become more assertive and really disrespectful from emotional exhaustion, and I don’t regret it. My family had earlier overheard the general manager complaining that housekeeping was entering our room and other rooms too soon, which didn’t match how she later defended what happened. This place could offer a solid stay given its location, but the cleanliness, especially the pull-out couches, needs work. The general manager could also use more training in customer service and handling conflict.

We had a great suite, with a dishwasher, convection oven, microwave, stove, dishes, cups, and more. The service was great too, and breakfast was free and really good.
