Hotel Gettysburg

The location made our Thanksgiving and Black Friday visit with my girlfriend really convenient. We were in the center of town, within an easy walk of restaurants, shops, and wine tasting, and Gettysburg Battlefield was about a five-minute drive away. One Lincoln served us well on Thanksgiving. The menu was limited that evening, but the entrees and drinks were excellent, and the bar staff earned a generous tip for their service. I did hear a thud in our room and watched a bag of chips fall on its own. That was the strangest of the ghostly things I experienced, though I don't expect everyone to believe in the hotel's ghosts. Our room, 324, could use some improvements. There wasn't a small fridge, just an ice bucket for keeping drinks cold. The heater blew cold air unless we set it to 75 degrees or higher, and at that setting it got so loud that sleeping was difficult. I had a good stay and would come back to Gettysburg, provided the heat or AC works properly.

The hotel is in a nice spot, and I liked its historic character, but the room was dusty enough to make sleeping difficult with allergies. The shower was uncomfortable too, with water pressure that's far too strong and water that swung between very hot and very cold. People screamed and slammed doors from midnight until 2 a.m. There was very little shade, so the rising sun woke me up.

We've been coming here every year for over a decade, sometimes for 10-15 years now, and have never had a problem. The rooms are spacious and always spotless, and the staff are consistently friendly, attentive, and ready to help. Zach, the GM, is always incredible. You can easily walk to bars, restaurants, and shops, too. Their commitment to doing a great job keeps impressing us.

Coming the day after New Year's worked out perfectly for my wife, who loves Christmas. The hotel still had its decorations up, and it wasn't crowded. We asked for a particular floor so our two young children wouldn't disturb anyone below us, and the second floor was peaceful and quiet. No ghostly experiences there, for anyone curious. This was our second stay with our kids, and we visit Gettysburg every year. We usually try different places, but none match this location. We do plan to return, though housekeeping missed a half-eaten bit of food under the couch and a deodorant stick beneath the bed. Management should follow up on that.
