Westwynd Motel

The location looked nice in the pictures, and my family had recommended the place, but I was completely wrong to trust that impression. The service was horrible and management was terrible. I never want to return.

The one thing that worked well was the bathroom water pressure. Otherwise, the room felt old and dingy. There was a queen bed but only one bedside table, and the dishes were piled in a plastic storage bin instead of put away in the kitchen cupboards. It gave the impression that nobody cared whether the stay felt pleasant. The mattresses were awful, like a bad water bed, and we couldn't connect to either of the two WiFi networks using the code we were given. The bathroom grab bar had one screw where it should have had three. Even the individually wrapped soaps suggested little concern for the environment. Behind the building was an open brown space, with broken windows visible in some nearby buildings. When we checked in, we asked about a late checkout. After a very long consideration, the receptionist offered just 30 extra minutes, which was my first sign they weren't willing to go out of their way. Staying here feels like giving money to a business that can't be bothered to care.

It was so clean and comfortable that it felt like an apartment I'd live in. I forgot to put up the "do not disturb" sign because I felt at home and didn't expect anyone to service the room. Some rooms have small kitchens with a stove and oven. I also really support the way the manager gives employees a chance by letting them live there rent-free when he hires them, so they can get on their feet. It's an affordable place, well run, and good to its staff. I think the world would be better if more businesses worked this way.

We usually choose chain motels because we travel with three dogs, but we were pleasantly surprised by the friendly service and how clean the room was. It had a microwave, fridge, and coffee pot, and there were no smells of smoking or other animals. The decor was lovely and homey. They even provided a towel for wiping the dogs' feet, a blanket, and a treat for each dog. The girl at the desk was friendly and printed directions to the nearest Walgreen's for me. Despite seeing lots of dogs out walking, it was quiet. We were very impressed and will stay there again when we're in the area. Violetena and James Hastings
