Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Texarkana

The staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, and our clean room and bathroom had everything working. For the price, it was a decent place for our one night passing through Texas, and we’d consider staying again. There were a few little room annoyances, including just one nightstand, no luggage rack, and 12 cup filters for a single cup coffee maker. The hotel also feels dated, with stained floors and discolored walls in the shared areas that could use attention.

The full kitchen came in handy for the frozen food we’d picked up at a market, and the price was reasonable. Both the day and night desk clerks were welcoming. Our AC unit seemed new and worked well. The paint and flooring could use updates, but we had a pleasant overnight stay.

The morning receptionist was wonderful, and a helpful employee changed our room after we reported what had happened. There were no insects in the second room, though it smelled, so we bought air freshener and continued our stay. The hotel needs renovation or upgrades to bring it up to date. We checked in on January 16,2021, and found roaches coming out in the first room. Another couple was dealing with the same thing. We also had no hot water. Since it was a late arrival, we stayed there that night, but it was a miserable night’s sleep.

At least the beds were clean and comfortable. The shower, though, only gave us cool water even after we waited almost 10 minutes. There were crumbs on the floor, and the room felt humid, smelled odd, and had damp, sticky rugs with mold around some edges. The building seemed poorly maintained. Stains on the rug, walls, and doors were visible in the common areas, along with other signs that upkeep had been deferred.
