Baymont by Wyndham Youngstown

My parents and I had to spend the night here on our way back from Boston a few years ago, since we couldn't cancel. We booked it as a Quality Inn, but it had been renamed within the previous six months. The beds felt like they were caving in, and half the hotel's lights seemed to be out, which made the place feel eerie, almost like a scene from a horror movie. The hotel looked like somewhere you'd expect to find in the worst part of Gary, Indiana, which struck me as funny given how close it is to the interstate. The breakfast was the one saving grace. My parents weren't happy with the place.

There was no breakfast, and both the pool and fitness center were closed. The only people I saw working there seemed to be a Middle Eastern man and a young boy. I paid a $50 deposit for “security and incidentals” and was told the bank would refund it at checkout. While heading home, I got an alert that they tried to charge my card another $50. Thankfully, I'd locked the card after reading reviews during my stay, so the charge couldn't go through. If they ask for an incidentals deposit, use cash. Don't hand over your card under any circumstances. I'd stay far away if there's literally anywhere else available.

The place is dingy, and they only give you one towel per room, no matter how many guests are staying. Ask for another and you get attitude. They advertise a pool and continental breakfast, but the pool is never open and the breakfast never happens. They also keep your deposit even if you have video showing the room was left in perfect shape, with no reason given. There are cheaper rooms with more to offer. I've read reviews with the same complaints and don't understand how this hotel is still open. We're taking it to the BBB and Attorney General.

They advertised breakfast, but there wasn't any. The online listing said animals were allowed, then they tried to charge me when I arrived. I had to show my ESA to avoid the fee. The room had roaches in the bathroom and snot on the walls. A lampshade was broken, the desk chair's arm was broken and the seat was ripped, and the dresser lamp had burned-out bulbs. I won't be back, and I'd tell others to choose another hotel.
