I was pleasantly surprised that I could bring my dog, and that alone made the stay worth every penny. The room had clearly been updated and was very comfortable. It’s an older hotel and a Quality Inn, so the facilities were about what I expected. I can’t say much about breakfast since I went to Hardee’s instead. I’d stay again.

I booked through Expedia with the wrong date. Expedia confirmed the hotel could approve a cancellation so I could rebook directly, but the property flat-out refused, misrepresented Expedia’s policy, and wouldn’t let me speak to a manager. There was no flexibility or accountability, even though I’m a repeat business traveler and the mistake cost me money. If anything goes wrong, they won’t help. Avoid.

Breakfast was a mess on both mornings, just as Toni’s review and photo from four months earlier showed. The first day there were only three slices of bread for two adults, and the young girl had to put her pillow down to get more. The yogurt was a week past its use-by date, and the apple juice dispenser gave us watered-down bin water. The next morning there was one bagel, one slice of bread, and one pastry. The girl, again sleeping on her pillow, refused to get more bread and said they’d run out the day before. I tried a hotcake, but the mix was so watery it was going to be a crap breakfast. The manager has acknowledged past reviews, but apparently nothing’s been done. Stay only if quality doesn’t matter to you. My one star is like leaving a nickel tip on a $500 meal. Room 131 had a long list of problems. The mirror above the sink was tilted at about 30 degrees after its screws came out, leaving drywall dust all over the sink. The wall safe had fallen face down onto the floor, with holes left in the wall. The shower leaked loudly enough to hear across the room, and the water quickly rose above my ankles. The towel rack was coming off the wall, too. We gave the night desk worker, who was pleasant, a list of issues and said they could wait until we left because there was nowhere to secure our things with the safe lying on the floor. We’d asked them not to make repairs while we were away, but the mirror was fixed when we returned. Now I’m wondering what the repairman did to my toothbrush. There was enough car park lighting to stage an NFL night game, but it shone into the room so brightly that I could almost read with the lights off. The television had few working channels and often cut out, perhaps from a bad connection or antenna. The floors also felt like they hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time.

On October 1, my bank called to say the hotel was trying to make nine more charges: $246 five times, $50 twice, and $25 twice. We’d left no damage behind. I’d already had a bad feeling when we entered the room on the 25th: stained bed covers, dead bugs under the sink, and a musty smell. My family and I, with our three service dogs, stayed on the 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th. At check-in I showed the woman the dogs’ papers, and she said it was fine and there’d be no charge. On the night of the 27th we went to get food, came back, and let the dogs out. A woman then said someone had complained about barking. We’d been there since the 25th without a complaint, and the dogs only bark when people bang around and make a lot of noise, which happened often. The manager came down, accused me of lying about the service dogs, and wouldn’t look at the papers. He put his finger in my face, yelled that he was calling the police and animal control, and I told him to go ahead. I said I was leaving because I wouldn’t stay after the manager got in my face. He then told my family and me that we couldn’t leave. We packed up anyway and drove five hours home in freezing weather. I’m holding my ground because I did nothing wrong. The photos below are from when we were heading out.

The third room was the only one that was close to okay, but the sink wouldn’t drain and the toilet wouldn’t flush. The first room had lights that didn’t work. In the second, bugs were everywhere, it smelled like a heavily unwashed man had been living there, and the door wouldn’t lock. I switched rooms three times in two hours. The front desk clerk was nice, and breakfast was just mid. I called the front desk about the toilet, and the morning clerk said he’d send someone later. The hotel itself feels like a rundown motel. More than $250 for two nights is ridiculous for these conditions, and this place needs more help than room renovations.
