Comfort Suites At Virginia Center Commons

We only stayed because every other hotel was booked for the volleyball tournament across the street. Our room had food left all over the floor, and the counters hadn't been wiped. I asked downstairs if someone could vacuum, and they handed me the vacuum, so I pushed that disgusting thing through the hotel and elevator and cleaned our room myself. The hallway was dirty too, and the bathroom floor and walls had stains and splatter. Thank goodness I had Lysol wipes to clean the surfaces. Other families had to change rooms because of trash and filth. The lobby was dark, musty, and muddy, and there was never anyone at the desk unless you pressed the service button, because staff stayed in the back. Our shower was clogged; I asked for Drano and called the desk, but nobody came or answered. Just a filthy, lousy hotel. I'm amazed we didn't all get sick. I won't stay at a Choice Hotel again.

I've stayed here before and that room was a little nicer. This time I booked a king suite, but the bathroom had cracked tile and water damage. I put a towel over the tile so my kid wouldn't cut her foot. There weren't any towels at the pool either. The front office said they had forgotten to wash them and they were in the dryer, so we'd have to wait 20-30 minutes. The hot tub was missing a few tiles, and guests had left dirty pool towels around the area. I'm a Choice member, but I won't book here again.

I lost a reservation I'd made four months earlier at a great rate, then had to rebook for more money and was charged for a full night. The clerk said it had been canceled because I hadn't confirmed, even after I showed her my call log and message. I'd called ahead to check in, but nobody picked up, and my message got no reply. She said I hadn't called the day before because she was working and they were too busy to read messages. For over 20 minutes while helping me, she also ignored incoming calls. Her manner wasn't helpful, and I believe they should have honored the reservation. This was a really frustrating customer service experience. I won't stay at a Choice Hotel again and wouldn't recommend this location.

The hotel itself is very nice for the price, but the room was too cold for me. The thermostats throughout the property seem to be set around 66 degrees, and you can't turn the heat up in your room. The water temperature is controlled too, so the shower never gets very hot. I'm sure it's because utility rates in Virginia are extremely high, but I won't stay here again because of it. I'm a Diamond Choice Privileges member with more than 2,000 nights at Choice hotels, and I've never run into this before.
