The terrace breakfast was a great introduction to local New Mexican food, with a view of clear skies, the top of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, and the Plaza beyond all those lovely potted plants. I still feel lucky to have started my Santa Fe visits this way, and there have been many more since. For my first stay, I wanted somewhere special. My friend, who was from Santa Fe, told me about this hotel, so I checked the pictures and booked it. I was completely enchanted. The colors, wood, tile, and design made it feel as though I'd stepped into the Old West. It was steeped in history and had exactly the rustic elegance I'd imagined Santa Fe might have.

I've stayed at the Lafonda for years and keep returning for its beautiful rooms, enchanting atmosphere, and consistently excellent service. The team at La Fonda are some of the friendliest people, always checking whether I need anything and ready to answer questions or take care of me. I'm definitely a fan of La Fonda on the plaza and plan to keep coming back. I'm already booked for opera season this summer, and my cousin and her husband are joining me to enjoy the La Fonda experience.

La Fonda feels like Santa Fe, and we'd absolutely stay there again. We parked the car and barely used it, since shops, galleries, restaurants, and the plaza are all an easy walk downtown. The hotel is beautiful, with classic Santa Fe architecture and thoughtful modern touches, especially in the bathrooms, that make things more comfortable while keeping its historic character. It feels considered without being overdone. Every team member was warm and helpful. The front desk went out of its way to find us a quiet room and happily gave us walking directions. Special mention to the valet and bell team, some of the best we've experienced anywhere: fast, careful, friendly, and consistently helpful without making us feel rushed.

You’re right in the plaza, and the hotel has plenty of historic character, rich colors, and Southwest design. The staff were good, and the valets were especially helpful. But eating here is extremely expensive. At the French cafe, a family of five paid $148 including a 20% tip for sandwiches or a crepe, coffee, and water. The pastries and egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich were overpriced too. Maybe that has something to do with salaries or taxes in New Mexico, but the cost will keep me away.

My sister and I spent seven nights at La Fonda, from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve, and everyone we dealt with was consistently friendly and helpful. Santi at the Fiesta lounge deserves a special mention for keeping his enthusiasm through incredibly busy shifts. The restaurant and bar teams were great, and room service, housekeeping, valet, and concierge all took good care of us. We were more than satisfied. Thanks to the whole staff!
