The Ryokan Zen Garden Suite had a lovely private inner courtyard, and the Japanese-influenced hotel is about 7-8 miles from downtown Sonoma. It was so quiet and restful that we actually enjoyed spending time in our room, which is unusual for us when we travel. The common spaces are inviting too, especially by the warm fireplace, where we sampled three regional wines and six varieties of Japanese sake at no extra charge. There was also a complimentary afternoon wine tasting with a great spread of snacks. Breakfast is included and decent, though a latte machine and bacon would improve it. The hotel is top-notch in nearly every way, and the staff are attentive and very friendly. One small idea: offer memory-foam pillows as an option. We'd recommend it for a relaxing getaway with wine tasting in the Napa and Sonoma valleys.

Afternoon wine and cheese were a highlight, with a local winery sharing its wines each day. The in-room coffee was great too. We stayed in the Gaige Suite and loved the comfortable bed, fantastic shower and tub, and deck fire pit where we ate breakfast and enjoyed wine. The staff were incredibly accommodating, especially the kitchen team, who made gluten-free and dairy-free options every morning. We LOVED our stay. It went beyond what we expected.

A relaxing hotel with Japanese-style suites, a pleasant pool area and hot tub, plus wine at the daily happy hour. The one letdown was breakfast: it was very basic and didn't match the nightly prices.

For my birthday, the hotel left an extra bottle of sake, a thoughtful gesture I really appreciated. I loved the Japanese Suite, especially its peaceful little courtyard, big beautiful bathtub, and two showers. Breakfast was amazing every morning, and the afternoon wine and snacks were a great extra. There were wines and little treats to sample whenever you liked. Such a relaxing, welcoming stay with plenty of thoughtful touches. I'd highly recommend it and would definitely come back.
