Garner Hotel Gonzales by IHG

We picked Garner Hotel Gonzales (IHG) because of its IHG branding, which suggested a basic level of quality, safety, and accurate listings. The room and amenities didn't match what was advertised, and the stay was disappointing. We booked through Vio.com, whose photos and descriptions matched the official IHG site. Since both listings showed the same details, this didn't seem to be a third-party listing mistake. In the room, the bathroom tiles were cracked and broken, the towel bar and toilet paper holder were loose, and the vanity had very little space despite being described as spacious. The tub was standard rather than a deep soaking tub. A closet mirror couldn't open all the way because it hit the AC unit, there was no in-room coffee or tea maker as listed, and the TV was still signed in to another guest's Netflix account. The advertised fitness center wasn't there. The patio and garden were very basic and unlike the listing photos. The ice machine was missing its air filter and looked poorly maintained. Breakfast looked unappetizing and wasn't well maintained; several guests skipped it because they were concerned about food quality and safety. There were security and service problems as well. At check-in, we were given a room key without anyone asking for ID or a credit card. Around 10:35 AM, the front desk was empty except for a “Be Back in 10 Minutes” sign, while several guests waited. One needed shampoo and conditioner to shower, and another was locked out of their room. The front desk's conduct toward a young adult in our party was inappropriate and unprofessional, and left her feeling uncomfortable and unsafe. The poor upkeep and oversight, along with marketing that didn't match what we found, were especially disappointing under the IHG name. I hope IHG takes a close look at this location because it doesn't meet the expectations that come with the brand.

I left and found somewhere safer and cleaner down the road. The room smelled awful, the bathroom was filthy, and its broken door lock made me feel unsafe traveling alone. They moved me, but the new room had no air conditioning. The manager was rude and disrespectful. Fortunately, I booked through a third party and got a full refund. I chose this place because of the reviews, which now seem like lies. I'm writing this in the hope that someone else can avoid the awful experience I had.

The room was comfortable, clean, and well cared for, and breakfast had plenty of choices. I also found the atmosphere peaceful and welcoming, so it was easy to relax and feel at home. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, and I felt genuinely welcomed from the moment I arrived at Garner Hotel in Gonzales, Texas. They clearly care about their guests. I'd happily stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Gonzales.

Back for another nice stay. The rooms are clean, the beds were so comfortable, and the young woman at the front desk yesterday was really nice.
