Mother Lode Motel

The room smelled awful, the shower was filthy, and the place was disgusting, run-down, and full of bed bugs. I'm not coming back. Stay somewhere else and save yourself the bug bites.

We came for my husband's work and stayed 11 days. The view was great, the place is animal friendly, and it's just a few minutes' walk to everything in town. But the rooms are small, there's limited parking, and you can't back in to park. There was no service in the rooms at all, and wifi was available only on request. The public microwave and ice machine are in the office; there's no cooking in the room. The outdoor BBQ area is nice, but the sparkers don't work. Fridges are cube small, with no freezer space, except one room has a decent-sized fridge. Ours froze everything when set to 2 out of about 7. The walls are thin, the toilet is so close to the tub that a tall person has to turn sideways, the shower stayed on one mode, and the drain wouldn't stop water for a bath. Adding an adult and our 8mo child to the room cost over 100. Housekeeping only came Thursdays, so during our stay we usually had no clean towels, and they changed the bedding only once. We wound up using our own. I'd only recommend it if none of that bothers you. Ask for extra towels if they decide to give you any. I wouldn't recommend it for kids or if you're pregnant.

The $60 per night was about what I expected, and having everything in town within walking distance was handy. The bathroom was clean, and although the fixtures were very old, that didn't bother me and everything worked. Still, my wife and I found our room dusty everywhere, and it was obvious it hadn't been cleaned in a while. I live in the desert, so I know how quickly rooms get dusty, and we weren't traveling with white gloves. The refrigerator was useful, but the door shelves had dried-on residue that could easily have been cleaned before we arrived. The mattress was very old and uncomfortable, and there were what looked like soda rings on the bedside tables. Those could have been wiped off too. Family staying in another room had a much cleaner one. A reviewer mentioned home-cooked room service meals, but there were none during the past two days. Pioche is a great little town in Lincoln County Nevada. I hope the owner or manager looks into these issues.

The manager was very friendly, and they offered room service with home-cooked dinners and breakfast. The room itself was okay, though the bathroom was tiny, with your knees nearly touching the bathtub when you sat on the toilet. It's great that the hotel is non-smoking, but the owners or managers smoked so much that I came out of the lobby smelling of smoke. It got into my clothes and stayed there until I washed them.
