Motel 6 Goodland, KS

The room was quiet, and the location made getting to I-70 very convenient. It was acceptable for cleanliness and layout, with a little dust, but I’d been warned that an extra-quiet room might have some dust, so that was fine. The TV remote didn’t work, though I was too tired to care. Everything else was fine, and the staff were friendly, polite, and receptive.

The staff were super friendly, but I didn’t feel safe or rested. The first room they sent us to had its door standing wide open at 8pm, so the front desk moved me right away. The next room was small, with very uncomfortable beds. People seemed to be living there and partying out on the walkway. We tried to sleep anyway, but the sheets were dirty.

The room was reasonably clean and didn’t smell musty, though it was dated with a few upgrades. What bothered me was the number of bugs: I counted six flies and several other little flying insects. Some might have come in when I opened the door, since the very bright white lights outside draw swarms of insects. Bugs don’t usually bother me much, but 10 or more in a room this size was too many. One kept buzzing around my face in the morning and woke me early.

For a quick overnight on our way to Colorado, the low price and fairly clean room were the only real upsides. My husband and I both slept badly because the bed and pillows were so uncomfortable, and there was a small hole in the sheets. The bathroom had just one full-size towel even though we’d booked for two adults. The AC squeaked loudly for a long time every time it shut off, but in a Kansas summer we couldn’t turn it off. The shower controls were reversed, so it took trial and error to figure out hot and cold, and the bathroom fan didn’t work. We couldn’t find a working ice machine when we went to fill our tumblers before leaving. We’d planned to come back through Goodland a couple of days later, but luckily we could cancel for free.
