Best Western Beacon Inn

My wife read a lot of reviews before choosing a place, and this hotel checked her boxes for price, a convenient location, and not being too noisy. We were very happy with our weeklong stay in late September on the third floor and would come back. The room was clean, and there was a nice indoor pool plus outdoor spots to sit and relax. Breakfast came each morning with plenty to choose from: make-your-own waffles, eggs some days, biscuits and gravy some days, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, and tea.

We stayed during the coldest weather in several years and were comfortable. The hotel was nearly empty, so that might have affected it, but the breakfast could've been better.

We booked for a cold winter day because the kids wanted to swim, but the pool visit quickly became frustrating. A front desk employee singled them out for having drinking water, even though the posted rules only prohibited glass. There were pizza boxes in the trash from previous guests, so food and drinks had clearly been around. Pool rooms get hot and humid, and telling kids they can't have fresh water seems ridiculous. The bigger concern was a guest smoking with the door open. Smoke filled the pool area and hotel, and my two-month-old baby and other children were exposed to it. The whole hotel smelled like cigarettes when we arrived. When I raised it, the employee brushed me off and didn't address the smoking. A little later she left the desk to smoke outside herself, which made it seem like it wasn't a big deal to her. If there are designated smoking areas, they weren't being enforced. The stay felt uncomfortable and poorly managed, and we won't return.

The room was poorly cleaned, or perhaps not cleaned at all. There was dirt beside the tub, a rose petal, and other unidentifiable grime on the floor. On top of that, every time the ceiling vent turned on, it gave off a terrible smell of weed and other gross stuff.
